    Shanghai Yan'an Middle School was established in 1946. It was formerly known as Zhenru Middle School, and was renamed as Yan'an after the foundation of the PRC. It was listed among key municipal middle schools in 1960. Mr. Deng Xiaoping inscribed the school name in 1979.
    The school moved its campus to the new site to the west of Hongqiao Development Zone in July, 1998. Since the 1990s, the school has been awarded as "Model Unit of Shanghai" consecutively for seven times, as well as many honors and awards such as "Model School Students in Conducts in Shanghai", "Research Base of Textbook Renovation of Primary School and Middle School Students of Shanghai", "Shanghai Model School with Sci & Tech Features", "National Model Employees' Home", "National Green School", and many others.
    The newly-built Yan'an Middle School occupies an area of 150 mou, with 50,000 square meters of green area totaling 40%. It is a garden school awarded by the municipality. More than 50 years since its establishment, with the efforts jointly made by generations of Yan'an People, the School has formed excellent campus culture and extraordinary experience and features. Thousands of successors and builders of modernization have been hatched out of the school.
